[ DID YOU WRITE OEDIPUS TOO??? NO! IT'S THE ALCOHOL BOOK YOU GAVE HIM, LAVI. ]
Of course it is. [ it's just - how it is. he's felt that ever since they got here, ever since they started learning about this, about satan's party and all that. he doesn't need the distance. ]
... I'm not surprised. [ softly ] That the verdict came up what as innocent. She was crying and screaming the entire time, wanting me to run away, wanting to stop. But she couldn't, and she still was the one that killed me.
[ perfect recall doesn't haunt only lavi - but the problem is, kon can extract the memory and relive it over and over again, if only to try and make out who the third person awake that night was. ]
[he did he wrote it for eto and lost cr points... oh but it's the alcohol book, something about that makes him a little fond. a brief blip, though he sobers at the rest of Kon's words, fingers stilling mid-tap.
...Well, she'd said as much. But it's still a horror to hear. He can't imagine what it would have been like for her, though his focus right now is undoubtedly on Kon, expression tight. So much for that distance,]
...I read a little of what she said during trial. Captions are shit, so I had to lip read. But she didn't remember everything that happened.
[Though it's different now,]
I saw the photo on your phone, of the person in the costume. When did you take it? While she was attacking you?
[ lavi you fool. help. eto should have beaten him with it.
kon continues to set out the things he's carried on his person, since getting jettisoned out of his clasket, toolkit coming from his back pocket so that he can set it down. compartmentalizing his things so that he can compartmentalize the trauma. ]
Captions? Maybe I can fix that, with powers being on and all that. Or just with the tools I've got.
[ a project. though he huffs a little humorlessly. ]
I had a piece of coal from my excursion that would have inflicted fits of anger on the person I used it on, long enough for people to question it. I was going to use that, but dropped it when she was attacking me. When I hit the dirt, I tried to get back up, but she was already there, and... well, couldn't really get away like I should've been able to. I figured if I was going to die there, like that, I'd find a way to leave as much evidence as I could.
That wound up being what amounted to a blurry photo as proof that someone else was awake.
Lavi thinks about the very precise state of mind you'd have to be in, to snatch at that desperate last minute hope while the blade goes in and out, in and out. He steps closer, a part of him instinctively moving so that he's in front of Kon, across the table, rather than in his peripheral.
Compartmentalizing is grand, but he still doesn't want to approach Kon from behind -- especially right now.]
Blurry or not, it was our best lead. Still is, actually.
[but he can understand Kon's frustration -- possibly worse now, seeing as they hadn't followed up on what he'd left behind.]
...You know I'm here if you need another head to rattle. [as little thoughts as he can provide, but still] Talked to Childe and Chandra after, Childe said he'd ask Satan and Chandra said he'd follow up on items.
[As insane as the gy is, they are at least united in their desire to figure out the mystery. Though Childe and Chandra are probably less emotionally invested in the truth than Lavi is]
kon pauses his picking and fussing with things, as lavi closes some of the space between them. for all that his time in amatsuki had been fucked up, for all that the excursion had been fucked up, he really does still broach on someone that's out of his element, especially after the murder he literally experienced.
he's not going to forget tuuri sobbing herself raw as she managed to bear him into the ground, despite their size and strength differences, and drive the knife into his back endlessly. ]
... I can extract the memory and review it. I don't know if I can convert it into a video to play, or if I can show it to anyone else, since that's not something I've tried, but I can at least see if I can make anything out more clearly in hindsight.
[ at least it's not said tonelessly. but he is frustrated. for himself, for tuuri, for all of them that have been shoved into this fucked up situation. sure, they have some psychopaths more suited to it. but none of it was by choice. ]
I know, Lavi. We'll get it figured out. I already know it was someone in my height range, not hers, though not much more than that. [ he comes around the table towards him, fully stopping his fussing. ]
[He hadn't missed the mention of powers earlier, but whatever powers he expected Kon to mention -- there's a slight raise of his eyebrow at that, the surprise momentarily replacing the concern he's been having such trouble hiding. It's not that it's hard to believe -- not after all the things the Noah and the people here can do -- it just resonates a little more, since it has to do with memory.]
That narrows it down some.
[the height range. the memory. he's already mapping out the possibilities. just making a list in his head, motive can be figured out later. he keeps still as Kon moves closer, thinks about his comrades bent double in dark corners, holding their trauma back because trauma could kill, trauma could invite the Earl.
it makes for good Exorcists sure, but it leaves Lavi bereft in the ways normal people would handle it.]
So you just pull it out of your head and read it like a book? Is it like a spell or something?
